Power of Meditation
Pion. Arvind Kumar has written a book Power of Meditation published simultaneously by Globo Books, New Delhi and Icon Publications Pvt. Ltd., New Delhi. This book has proved a great success in the market. Pion. Arvind Kumar is a senior journalist, earlier he was associated with The Pioneer, Lucknow and a number of other newspapers and magazines, including The Illustrated Weekly of India, The Week and Onlooker. He started practising meditation after reading Jose Silva’s Mind Control Method, when he was still a student in Lucknow University. Later, he practised meditation in company of several yogis near the shrine of Sri Badrinath in Uttarakhand Himalaya. For past several years, he has been practising meditation in the ashram of Sri Ramchandra Mission (headquarter at Chennai). Pion. Arvind Kumar is a life-member from Delhi with the membership no. 271. ‘Health related Programmes in Uttarakhand, UP & Delhi etc. ’
Various branches of the International Pioneers Club hold Health Camps regularly at various places across the country. On January 17, 2008 the Club organized a health camp at village Kanti in district Chitrakoot, UP, in which no less than 465 patients were served. On July 1, 2008, more than 150 patients were diagnosed for diabetes and orthopedics in Shahadara, Delhi. On March 7, 2008, Chitrakoot branch provided health service to more than 250 policemen in Police line, Chitrakoot.
The Club’s Founder Santosh Mehrotra started a grand Eye-Testing Programme in 2007, in which he caused conducting of eye-tests of school-going children mainly in the government run schools, in which more than 10,000 children were give eye-glasses by the Club. The programme still continues in the surrounding region of Ramnagar in district Nainital, Uttarakhand. After finishing the eye-testing programme in the urban region, the Club also focused its attention on the rural and hilly region of the district. The programme is being run under the joint leadership of Dr. KK Agrawal, BD Pande and Santosh Mehrotra.
An eye survey conducted under the aegis of International Pioneers Club has revealed that more that 14 % school-going children suffer from myopia and other eye-related ailments due to ignorance and indifference of their parents and other guardians which is a matter of serious concern. This is the loss of national human resource. On seeing the gravity of the ailment, Mr. Santosh Mehrotra shot a letter to Union Health Minister Ambuka Ramdoss on Feb. 28, 2007 urging him to undertake the eye-testing campaign in tandem with the Pulse Polio Programme. On the occasion of International Sight Day Mr. Santosh Mehrotra sent another Fax message to the Union Minister of Health, Union Minister of State for Health, Health Minister Uttarakhand urging them to take notice of the eye ailments of the poor class school-going children in Uttarakhand. A delegation from International Pioneers Club has already called on the then Uttarakhand Health Minister Ramesh Pokhariyal Nishank who lauded the monumental work done by the Club. Meanwhile, Directorate of Health Services, Union Ministry of Health & FW, Govt. of India, Nirman Bhawan, New Delhi, sought information on the letter of International Pioneers regarding visual acuity in Ramnagar, district Nainital, from the Director General M.H. & F. W. Chandar Nagar, Dehra Dun, stating, “We draw your kind your attention to your L. No. 394/ DDG/ (O)/ 2007- Misc. dated 15.11.07 regarding the Action Taken Report on school screening services in Ramnagar area (Nainital). In this regard, we bring to your kind notice that a detailed survey was taken up in Ramnagar urban/rural area by PHC Bailparao (Nainital) under the supervision of CMO Nainital with the assistance of International Pioneers. Eye-screening was done for 1821 students in which 145 students were found of refractive error which comes about 8%. However, the International Pioneers has reported to be of 14% refractive error children.
“We send herewith a copy of list of the entire students suffering from refractive error for your kind reference. As per instruction of the Secretary (Health) Uttarakhand and CMO of all the districts have also prepared an action plan from Nov, 07 to March 08 in which all the students of Junior High School will be taken for vision test.
“We further inform you that the percentage of refractive error was 6% of SES conducted during the last year.”
Besides, the Club also held various other health camps in different cities and towns including Yoga Camps, Diabetes Camps, Dental Camps, Blood-donation Camps, Oxygen Banks and various ambulance services. However, the International Pioneers Club looks forward to contribute something more to the welfare of the Indian people, particularly the poor and deprived ones.
